Tigers, Arabians win cross country titles

Yorktown celebrates the girls HHC championship.

The Yorktown Tigers and Pendleton Heights Arabians claimed Hoosier Heritage Conference cross country titles Saturday afternoon in the HHC meet at Blue River Park in Shelbyville.

Yorktown won the girls championship, placing all five scoring runners in the top 12 to tally 38 places and win by 18 places over Pendleton Heights (56). New Palestine (78) was third. PH’s Christina Magers was the individual champion, posting a 5K time of 19:25.74 to win by 8.2 seconds over New Palestine’s Brenna Shaw. Madeline Aul of Yorktown (19:38.78) was third. NP’s Kendall Mann was fourth and Yorktown’s Indira Brown fifth.

Yorktown had five All-HHC runners. In addition to Aul and Brown, Amberleigh Sorensen eighth, Hannah Rapp 10th and Elizabeth Reece 12th.

Pendleton Heights won the boys championship, placing three runners in the top four and four in the top 11 to tally 35 places and win over New Palestine (80) and Mt. Vernon (88).

PH’s Milan Jones was the individual HHC champion, with a time of 16:14.66. Delta’s Cade Orchard was the individual runner-up (16:24.17). PH’s Caleb Martin and Sean Roan were third and fourth. Greenfield-Central’s Conner Kinnaman finished fifth.

PH’s boys conference title was the Arabians’ third straight and 12th overall. Yorktown won its first HHC girls championship.
