Players of the Week

Tegan Seyring, Yorktown

Seyring had 42 kills in the Tigers’ four matches last week, all of which were sweeps.

Mabrey Shaffmaster, New Castle

Shaffmaster had 43 kills in two HHC victories, including a double-double against New Palestine.

News and notes

With two weeks to go in the regular season, Yorktown and New Castle are again the contenders for the HHC title. NC is 6-0, Yorktown is 5-0. The Tigers play at New Palestine Tuesday. The Trojans and Tigers are set to meet Oct. 4 at Yorktown.

Several HHC teams brought home hardware from the weekend. Greenfield-Central won the Cougar Challenge, sweeping all four matches. Ava Antic had 39 kills and 36 digs on the week. Morgan Hornaday had 127 assists for G-C on a 5-1 week. Mt. Vernon won the Muncie Central Invitational, again with four 2-0 sweeps. New Palestine won the New Palestine Invitational.

Yorktown remained perfect on the year with a 4-0 week. The Tigers won their lone HHC match 25-11, 25-14, 25-17 Wednesday over Greenfield-Central. Kenzie Knuckles had 13 kills and 11 digs and Kylie Murr 22 digs for Yorktown. Makayla Price led G-C with seven kills.

New Castle went 2-0 on the week, beating Pendleton Heights 25-12, 25-19, 25-16 Tuesday behind Mabrey Shaffmaster’s 15 kills and Bailey Cox’s 14 digs. Avery Ross had five kills for PH. NC then beat New Palestine Thursday 23-25, 25-18, 25-15, 25-13. Mabrey Shaffmaster had 28 kills and 10 digs. Zoe Conway had 27 digs. Lydia Jones had 12 kills for the Dragons. Sydney Robertson had 32 assists and 11 digs. Robertson had 127 assists on the week.

Saturday, Delta beat Shelbyville 25-11, 27-25, 25-14. Maggie Manor had 21 digs for Delta. Chloe Coleman and Darian Barnard had 10 kills each. For Shelbyville, Grace Laker had seven kills and 14 digs.

HHC teams are 119-31 (.793) vs. non-conference foes.

Week’s HHC matches

Monday: Delta at PH

The Eagles look to continue their recent run after going 3-1 last week. PH seeks its first HHC victory.

Tue.: Shelby at PH

    Two solid teams on the upswing meet with conference positioning on the line.

Tue.: Yorktown at NP

    The top-ranked Tigers can set up a winner-take-all match against New Castle for the HHC title with a win.

Thu: MV at Shelby

   The Marauders went 6-0 last week and didn’t lose a set. Shelbyville has been surging and is at home.

Thu: PH at G-C

    G-C looks to clinch a spot in the top half of the league at home. Both teams have multiple threats up front, with several top hitters.
