Players of the Week

G: Alexi Hardie, Mt. Vernon & Elizabeth Reece, Yorktown

Hardie scored twice for the Marauders in their 3-0 HHC title-clinching win over Pendleton Heights. Reece tallied nine goals on the week, including five goals and five assists in the Tigers’ 3-0 week.

B: Zack Bell, Greenfield-C & Trae Hassebroek, Shelbyville

Bell had two goals and an assist and helped the Cougars control their HHC title-clinching win over New Castle.  Hassebroek took the HHC scoring lead with five goals and four assists in a 3-1 week that included two wins over HHC foes.

News & notes

Greenfield-Central clinched its first outright HHC boys title since 2000, and second straight title, with a 6-0 win over New Castle Thursday. Zack Bell scored twice and Tyler Murphy had a goal and an assist. Mt. Vernon finished second with a 6-1 mark.

Pendleton Heights finished third in the HHC by going 2-0 in the final week. Ethan Schitter and Daniel Aker scored in a 2-1 win over Shelbyville Tuesday, then Mason Fridley scored in a 1-0 Thursday win over New Palestine. Ethan Hunt had both shutouts for PH.

Shelbyville clinched a fourth-place finish by going 2-1 in the final week. Shelby beat Yorktown 5-1 Monday. Trae Hassebroek had three goals and two assists. Saturday, the Golden Bears beat Delta 6-0 as Josh Williams scored twice.

Mt. Vernon won its third straight HHC girls title – and its second outright title in three years – with a 3-0 win over Pendleton Heights Monday. Alexi Hardie scored twice for MV and Jaici Wright made four saves for the shutout. PH finished in a three-way tie for second with Greenfield-Central and New Palestine.

NP clinched a piece of second with a 6-0 win over Shelbyville. Victoria Crowder had three goals and an assist for the Dragons.

Yorktown finished fifth, beating Delta 6-1 Tuesday behind Elizabeth Reece’s two goals and three assists, and then beating Shelbyville 5-0 Saturday. Reece had three goals and two assists in that contest.

Shelbyville played three HHC games in the week. The Bears Delta 5-3 in OT behind Hannah Murray’s two goals and an assist.

Sectional action begins this week, with HHC teams across several sites in Class 3A and 2A.
