Trent Miller, Pendleton Heights
The Arabians’ senior guard had two big nights in two conference wins. He had 19 points in 13 minutes in an 81-44 win over Yorktown, and followed up with a 31-point performance two days later in a 64-49 victory over New Palestine. Miller also had five rebounds and three assists against New Palestine.
Conference news & notes
- The HHC title could be clinched this week, as New Castle hosts Delta Thursday. A win by the Trojans would clinch at least a share of the title. Second-place Shelbyville visits New Palestine Friday.
- Pendleton Heights took two conference games last week to improve to 4-2 in the HHC and into third place in the conference standings. In Thursday’s 81-44 win over Yorktown, four Arabians scored in double figures. Trent Miller had 19 points, Eli Pancol 15, Tristan Ross 14 and Damieon Warrum 10. Ross also had nine boards and Justin Shupe 10 assists. Walker Moore and Reid Neal led Yorktown with seven points each. On Saturday, Miller scored 31 points and Warrum 15 in a 64-49 win over New Palestine. Pancol added nine rebounds. NP was led by Matthew True’s 17 points and 12 from Gavin Hausz.
- The week’s other conference game saw Delta beat Greenfield-Central 57-53 in overtime. It was G-C’s fourth OT game of the year – the Cougars would play No. 5 two days later. Josh Bryan scored 18 points and Josh Greenberg 13 for Delta. Bryan also had seven boards. Brian Long had a double-double for G-C with 11 points and 12 boards. Matt Turner scored 20 and Will O’Connor 16 for the Cougars. The victory was Delta coach Mark Detweiler’s 250th career coaching win.
- Other big performances came from Shelbyville’s Zach Kuhn, who scored 33 points in the Golden Bears’ 87-72 Saturday win over Plainfield. He also had nine boards and five assists. Josh Williams had 16 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Mt. Vernon had a big week, beating defending 2A champ Frankton 84-67 beind Keith Rupert’s 22 points and 16 from Peyton Meadors. Damari Gatewood had 15 in a 52-45 Saturday win over Noblesville.
- Six of the eight HHC teams now have 10 wins on the year. The HHC is 61-38 against non-league foes.
