HHC Athletes of the Week & notes for individual sports from the previous week

Boys tennis

Players of the Week (Week 3 – 8/27-9/1): Layton Stieneker/Matthew Bunton, Shelbyville

The duo went 2-0 last week against conference foes, beating Pendleton Heights and New Palestine, to improve to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in HHC play.

Tennis notes

New Palestine’s Matthew True won his 60th career match last week and is 3-1 in HHC play this year.

Delta’s Tannon Dishman went 3-0 at No. 1 singles in the powerful Carroll Invitational, featuring six of the state’s top 21 boys teams. Dishman now has 65 career wins – 15th all time in Delta history – and is 9-1 on the season.

Girls golf

Player of the Week (Week 4: 8/27-9/1): Alaina Nugent, Mt. Vernon

A freshman, Nugent shot a 38 to tie for first place in the Hancock County meet. She ultimately finished second after a playoff.

Girls cross country

Athlete of the Week (Week 3: 8/27-9/1): Audrey Brinkruff, Greenfield-Central

Brinkruff ran a time of 19:33 to finish eighth at the Columbus North Invitational.

Boys cross country

Athlete of the Week (Week 3: 8/27-9/1): Luke Upton, Pendleton Heights

Upton finished fourth in the elite race at the Marion Invitational with a time of 16:12. He helped the Arabians finish second overall in the meet’s toughest division.
