Players of the Week

G: Cleo Mills, Mt. Vernon

Mills had a hat trick in the Marauders’ 5-0 shutout of New Palestine Wednesday, then followed with four goals against Yorktown Saturday.

B: Abe Buescher, Greenfield-C.

Buescher made 13 saves in the Cougars’ 1-0 shutout of Mt. Vernon and five in a shutout of Delta.

News and notes

Last week featured five HHC boys games, with Greenfield-Central moving into first place with its 1-0 win over Mt. Vernon Thursday. Zack Bell scored the game’s lone goal. Earlier in the week, G-C beat Delta 11-0, with Bell tallying three goals and two assists.

Also Tuesday, Mt. Vernon beat Yorktown 7-0, with Tylin Broaders scoring twice and Logan Angelopulos tallying a goal and three assists.

Shelbyville won its conference opener Thursday, beating New Palestine 2-0 behind a goal and an assist each from Trae Hassebroek and Evan White.

Saturday’s Shelbyville at Yorktown game will be played Sept. 24.

This week features six HHC boys games, with all eight teams in action, plus two more to start next week. Co-leaders Shelbyville and Greenfield-Central meet Monday.

In girls action, PH beat Shelbyville 11-0 Tuesday behind two goals and two assists from Helena Talbot. Taylor Fort had two goals and an assist. Wednesday, Greenfield-Central blanked Delta 8-0. Anne Marie Dekeyser had three goals and two assists for the Cougars. Lucy Brand added two goals and three assists. Also Wednesday, Mt. Vernon blanked New Palestine 5-0. MV’s Cleo Mills had a hat trick and Alexi Hardie two goals and an assist. MV beat Yorktown 9-1 Saturday. Mills had four goals and an assist.

This week’s girls schedule has PH at Yorktown Tuesday, G-C at NP Wednesday, New Castle at PH Thursday and NP at Delta Saturday.

HHC in the polls: MV’s boys are No. 18 in Class 3A and Yorktown’s girls No. 20 in Class 2A this week.
