The New Palestine Dragons swept the Hoosier Heritage Conference cross country titles Saturday at the Muncie Sportsplex.
The NP girls had six All-HHC runs, including individual champion Brenna Shaw, to tally 21 places. Pendleton Heights (66) was the runner-up.
NP’s boys tallied 41 places, with five All-Conference runners, to win the title. Greenfield-Central (66) finished second. PH senior Milan Jones was the individual champion.
Shaw, a sophomore, ran a time of 19:09 to win the girls individual title. G-C’s Audrey Brinkruff (19:42) was second.
NP had four other top 10 runners – Kendall Mann was third, Victoria Crowder fourth, Kaylin Casner sixth and Emily Adam seventh.
PH’s girls had four All-Conference runs, led by ninth-place Catherine Dudley. Katie Jones was 12th, Hailee Brunnemer 14th and Madison McKee 15th.
Third-place Delta had two Top 10 runs – Ashleigh Brelage (fifth) and Makayla Robles (eighth). Yorktown had two All-HHC runners – 10th-place Amberleigh Sorensen and 13th-place Elizabeth Reece.
In the boys meet, Jones won the individual title with a time of 16:18.7. Yorktown junior Matthew Mitsch was second (16:27.8) and G-C’s Parker Niemeier (16:40.7) third.
NP won with strong depth, with five All-HHC runners. Drew Austin, Kyler Harrison and Josh Collins came in fourth, fifth and sixth. Devon Whitaker was 12th and Caleb Stirm 14th.
Runner-up G-C had three Top 10 finishes. In addition to Niemeier, Conner Kinnaman was seventh and Luke Muckerheide eighth. Third-place Mt. Vernon also had three All-HHC performances – 11th-place Marco Ramirez, 13th-place Evan Rappe and 15th-place Colin Brown.
NP’s boys won their first conference title since 1997. The Dragon girls claimed their first since 2009.
