New Castle claims HHC golf title

Led by three golfers shooting in the 70s, the New Castle Trojans claimed the Hoosier Heritage Conference title Saturday at Fall Creek Golf Course in Pendleton.

The Trojans shot 310 over 18 holes, beating runner-up Yorktown by two strokes. New Palestine was third with a score of 323. The top five were all within 18 strokes.

Greenfield-Central’s Noah Mohler shot 73 and won the individual conference title in a playoff over NC’s Dillon Bergum, who also shot 73. Yorktown’s Carson Orr and NC’s Derek Tabor tied for third with 75s.

Brady Wheeler also shot 79 for New Castle. Orr led Yorktown, while Quinn Dobbins led New Palestine with a 76, tying him for fifth place with Mt. Vernon’s Sam McWilliams and Delta’s Alex Bratton. Haiden Rose of MV and Brady Wheeler of NC were also All-Conference, tying for eighth.
