Players of the Week

Kylie Murr, Yorktown

Murr had 42 digs in two matches, including 22 in a three-set victory over Mt. Vernon.

Gracie King, Pendleton Heights

King had 40 kills – including 13 against Frankton – leading the Arabians to their first Madison County title since 2005. She also had two other 10-kill matches in a 5-0 week.

News and notes

New Castle and Yorktown have emerged as co-leaders after victories last week, headed into a busy week of conference play with six matches.

HHC teams are 80-24 against non-league foes.

Pendleton Heights won the Madison County Tournament over the weekend, going 5-0. Three other teams brought home hardware Saturday. New Palestine won the Greenwood Invitational. Shelbyville and New Castle won their own tournaments. Shelbyville’s victory gave the Bears their first record above .500 since 2015. Grace Laker had 29 kills and Audrey Reinhart had 69 digs in the Bears’ 4-1 week.

Last week featured three HHC matches. Tuesday, New Castle swept Shelbyville 25-4, 25-11, 25-9. Mabrey Shaffmaster had 17 kills for the Trojans. Audrey Reinhart had eight digs for Shelby. NC beat Greenfield-Central 25-14, 25-18, 25-19 Thursday, behind 13 kills and 24 assists from Melani Shaffmaster. G-C’s Ava Antic had nine kills. Also Thursday, Yorktown beat Mt. Vernon 25-11, 25-19, 25-14. Kenzie Knuckles had 12 kills and 18 digs. Kylie Murr had 22 digs for the Tigers. MV’s Sophie Schultz had 20 digs.

Yorktown remains No. 1 in the IHSVCA ratings.

Both teams seeking their first HHC victories after strong out-of-conference play.

Tuesday: MV at G-C

Two county rivals have combined records of 22-7 and 2-1 HHC marks.

Thursday: G-C at Shelby

The “Fuller Bowl” as Andrew & Travis Fuller’s teams match up.

Thursday: NC at MV

The HHC co-leaders visit an MV squad in a match that features two deep attacks.

Thursday: PH at NP

Fresh off their county title, the Arabians head to NP for what is often a close match.

Saturday: Yorktown at Shelby

The HHC co-leading Tigers travel to 8-5 Shelby.
