Players of the Week

Offense: Reid Neal, Yorktown

Neal completed 16-of-23 passes for 284 yards and five touchdowns in the Tigers’ win over Shelbyville. He also ran for 156 yards and three touchdowns.

Defense: Kyle King, New Palestine

King had three tackles for loss, including a sack and a forced fumble that led to a touchdown against Greenfield-Central. Also had three pass breakups as a DL.

Special teams: Zac Stanley, Delta

Stanley was 7-for-7 on PATs and had one touchback for the Eagles. He is 34-for-37 on PATs this season and also hit his lone field goal attempt.

News and notes

Delta and New Palestine seized the HHC lead with victories last week, as each team improved to 4-0 in the conference after Week 6. The two teams meet in Week 9.

Delta has shown tremendous balance offensively this season, with 15 different players finding paydirt. Last week, QB Brady Hunt threw for 164 yards and four touchdowns in a 49-14 win over New Csatle. Cameron Levers had 117 yards receiving and two TDs – his second straight 100-yard game – and Zach Garner ran for two TDs and 132 yards. NC’s Drew Barber threw for 116 yards – 63 to Luke Bumbalough.

New Palestine continued its unbeaten season with a 76-7 win over Greenfield-Central. Charlie Spegal ran for 195 yards and six TDs. He now leads the nation with 31 touchdowns and 188 points. Zach Neligh ran for 141 and threw for 126. Gehrig Slunaker threw for 160 yards for G-C.

Reid Neal had a huge game for Yorktown, accounting for 440 yards and eight TDs in Yorktown’s 66-0 win over Shelbyville. Jared Harris had 102 yards receiving. Matthew Merritt ran for 129 yards for Shelby.

Mt. Vernon scored two fourth-quarter TDs to beat Pendleton Heights 28-14. Rylan Cole ran for 151 yards and Tyson Harley threw for 125 for MV. Christian Conkling threw for 160 yards – 112 to Anakin Allison. Allison now has 310 yards the last three weeks.

This week’s games

New Castle at Mt. Vernon

The HHC’s most potent passing attack – Drew Barber-to-Luke Bumbalough – meets a balanced Marauder squad at MV. Tyson Harley is averaging more than 140 yards/game passing and Dylan Cole is coming off a 100-yard game. MV’s defense shone in a victory over Pendleton Heights last week.

New Palestine at Shelbyville

The Dragons’ varsity offense has scored touchdowns on more than 80 percent of its possessions this season. This game features two top rushers in NP’s Charlie Spegal, the league’s lone 1,000-yard rusher so far. Shelby’s Matthew Merritt has four straight 100-yard games.

Pendleton Hts. at Delta

A matchup between two teams who have both received votes in the 4A poll this season. PH is looking to bounce back from last week’s loss to Mt. Vernon, while Delta looks to maintain first place. PH’s Christian Conkling crossed the 1,000-yard passing mark last week and Anakin Allison posted his second straight 100-yard receiving game. Delta has had tremendous balance, with 15 different players scoring touchdowns. Cameron Levers has 297 yards and four TDs receiving the last two weeks.

Yorktown at Greenfield-C.

The Tigers broke out in a big way last week with their 66-0 win over Shelbyville. It was their most points since 2013. Reid Neal passed the 1,000-yard mark passing last week. Gehrig Slunaker leads G-C’s young squad. J.P. Fuchs had a 100-yard receiving game last week against NP.
