Players of the Week

Offense: Eli Pancol, Pendleton Heights

Pancol had six catches for 125 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Arabians to a 51-13 victory over county rival Anderson.

Defense: Maxen Hook, New Palestine

Hook had 18 tackles in the Dragons’ 31-9 victory over 6A No. 9 Center Grove. He also had two tackles for loss, a sack, a forced fumble and two passes defended.

Special teams: Tim Clark, Shelbyville

Clark averaged 46.7 yards on seven punts in the Golden Bears’ loss at Franklin. He had two 60-yard boots and two inside the 20. He also was 2-2 on PATs.

News and notes

HHC in the rankings: New Palestine was a unanimous selection for No. 1 in the IFCA Class 5A poll – the Dragons’ second straight week atop the rankings. Pendleton Heights is receiving votes in the IFCA 4A poll for the second straight week.

HHC teams went 10-6 in the non-conference portion of the schedule. Four teams – New Castle, New Palestine, Pendleton Heights and Yorktown – are undefeated.

New Palestine had an impressive 31-9 victory over 6A No. 9 Center Grove last Friday. Zach Neligh ran for 113 yards and two scores and threw for 95 in the victory. Charlie Spegal ran for two touchdowns.

Drew Barber threw for 209 yards and 4 TDs in New Castle’s 35-14 win over Rushville. The Trojans are 2-0 for the first time since 2006.

Reid Neal threw for 183 yards in Yorktown’s 26-20 win over Muncie Central. Jamarius Evans had 13 tackles, including two for loss, and a forced fumble for the Tigers.

Christian Conkling completed 9-of-11 for 177 yards and 5 TDs in Pendleton Heights’ victory over Anderson. 125 yards went to Eli Pancol. Kamden Earley ran for 141.

Brady Hunt threw for 178 yards in Delta’s loss to Eastbrook.

This week’s games

New Palestine at Yorktown

The Dragons meet up with the Tigers in a matchup of teams who have 2-0 records so far in the season. NP posted wins over ranked teams by a combined score of 108-9, led by Charlie Spegal’s 317 yards and nine TDs. Reid Neal has thrown for 353 yards in Yorktown’s two wins.

Pendleton Hts. at New Castle

The Trojans are 2-0 for the first time in 12 years. The Arabians are 2-0 for the second straight campaign. This game matches up two of the HHC’s top receivers in PH’s Eli Pancol and last year’s conference receiving leader, NC’s Luke Bumbalough.

Shelbyville at Delta

Delta put up strong numbers in its loss to Eastbrook last week, with Brady Hunt throwing for 178 yards in the loss. The Golden Bears are looking for their first victory under new head coach Michael Clevenger, with veteran QB Landon Watson throwing for 100+ yards in each game so far.

Greenfield-C. at Mt. Vernon

Two Hancock County rivals meet up in the opening week of conference play. MV has spread the ball around under coach Mike Kirschner, with three receivers among the conference leaders and Tyson Harley throwing for 367 yards in two games. G-C got some offensive momentum with a TD against Whiteland.
