Player of the Week

Lydia Jones, New Palestine

Jones had two double-doubles in three victories last week. She had 17 kills and 10 digs in a four-set victory over a ranked Hauser squad, then followed with 19 kills and 10 digs against Hamilton Heights and 18 kills against Whiteland. Jones had 54 kills and 28 digs in 10 sets on the week.

News and notes

Last week’s schedule featured two HHC matches. Yorktown swept Delta 25-12, 25-11, 25-11 Tuesday. Kenzie Knuckles had 14 kills and 16 digs for the Tigers. Tegan Seyring and Courtney Watkins had 11 kills each for the Tigers. Kate Vinson had 38 assists for Yorktown. Maggie Manor had 11 digs and Bella Dearinger 15 assists for Delta.

Thursday featured Mt. Vernon beating Pendleton Heights 21-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-16. Claire Ertel had 12 kills and 10 digs for MV. Victoria Bulmahn added 38 assists and 12 digs. Sophie Schultz had 20 digs for MV. Gracie King had 10 kills and Ally Hall 16 digs for PH.

HHC teams are 47-15 in non-conference matches this season. Three teams – Yorktown (10-0), Mt. Vernon (8-0) and Greenfield-Central (6-0) are undefeated.

Other key performanaces: Delta’s Bella Dearinger had 54 digs and 129 assists in seven matches. Greenfield-Central’s Ava Antic had 28 kills and 26 digs in six sets on the week and recorded her fourth double-double.

Yorktown remains No. 1 overall in the IHSVCA ratings. The Tigers won Saturday’s Yorktown Invitational.

Key matches

Tue: Delta at G-C

Greenfield-Central enters undefeated at 6-0. Delta is 5-5 and in search of its first conference victory. This will be a key match in the standings.

Thurs: Delta at MV

Delta continues its tour of Hancock County with a visit to undefeated Mt. Vernon. The Marauders have had great balance early this season.

Thurs: NP at G-C

Two longtime rivals meet in a matchup of teams with a combined 12-1 mark.

Thurs: PH at Yorktown

Yorktown puts its HHC lead on the line against the Arabians.
