The New Palestine Dragons clinched the 2022 Hoosier Heritage Conference girls track and field championship Tuesday, May 10 at Mt. Vernon, using three individual champions and their depth to win a close four-way meet.
The Dragons won their ninth title overall and their fourth in the last five HHC meets. They were led by champions Rylee Hurst (400), Sydney Miller (discus) and Quin Lumbley (shot put).
NP tallied 115.33 points. Greenfield-Central (105.5) was second, Delta (98) third and defending champion Mt. Vernon (92.83) fourth.
Delta’s Nicki Southerland was a three-event winner, claiming the titles in the 800, 1600 and 3200. Greenfield-Central’s Kayana Maroska won two events – the 200 and 100 hurdles. She led the Cougars to five individual titles, joining Savannah Lake (100), Reagan Crouch (300H) and Madelyn Mies (pole vault).
Yorktown’s Paige Taylor was also part of three victories. She won the high jump and teamed with Mya Spangler, Paige Brooks and Brooke Miles to win both the 4×100 and 4×400.
